Cassell Nomination to the Federal District Court in Utah/Vote on Confirmation.
senate Roll Call 108     May 13, 2002
Y = Conservative
N = Progressive
Winning Side:
Conservative

Paul Cassell was nominated to be a judge for the Federal District Court in Utah. Known as a political conservative, Cassell had clerked for conservative Justices Antonin Scalia and Warren Berger of the Supreme Court, the former when he was serving on the Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C. He was perhaps best known for his advocacy of victims' rights, a doctrine that asserts criminal procedure is tilted too strongly in favor of defendants. With Progressives voting against, he was confirmed 67-20.
